The Dead Reaches

In the northern region of Gosusia, there exists a mountain range known as The Dead Reaches. This area is considered highly dangerous, and it is avoided by most travelers, including the dwarves who do not even attempt to mine the area. The reason behind such caution is due to the legions of undead that are referred to as The Undying. They wander around the mountains aimlessly, and while they aren't considered a threat to the people of Gosusia, they can be deadly to those who take the risk of venturing into the mountains.

The Undying are believed to have been cursed by the fallen arcanist cities that were once situated in the area. The dark magic that was unleashed during the fall of these cities has left a permanent stain on the land, causing people from all over the world to be cursed with undeath. The Undying are the result of this curse, and they are said to have been wandering the Dead Reaches for centuries.

The Undying are not organized, nor are they intelligent. They do not march or move in any particular direction. They simply roam around the mountains, often congregating in small groups. They are easy to spot as some of them emit an eerie blue glow, making them visible even from a distance. While they aren't considered a threat, their presence alone is enough to deter most people from entering the Dead Reaches.

The Undying themselves are not harmful individually, as they are slow and do not actively pursue living beings. However, they do pose a threat to those who venture too close to them or when they're found in groups. It is said that their touch can cause a person to become cursed with undeath, turning them into one of The Undying. This is why most people avoid the Dead Reaches altogether.

Legend has it that there is a hidden temple within the mountains, deep within the heart of The Dead Reaches. It is said that this temple contains a powerful artefact that can lift the curse of undeath. However, few have dared to venture deep enough into the mountains to locate it. Those who have tried never returned, and it is unknown if anyone has ever successfully lifted the curse.
